A father does CPR on his 12 year old child until the ambulance gets there..... and the son recovers because of the father's  immediate care. 

 North Carolina Training Services can provide basic life saving training that you can be used anytime - anywhere.  This father may have been trained by his work place to help a fellow worker.  He most likely never thought about using his skill on his own son.
